The Kingdom of Avendale

Since leaving Quentari, the Kingdom of Avendale has been my home. There I live, learn, and find adventure with new friends and allies. Avendale is a young Kingdom by the measure of the elves and humans alike, and her people face many challenges. Below is a brief introduction to the Kingdom's history, and references to the baronies, guilds, and adventuring groups related to Avendale.

History
In 429, C.Y., an expedition from the Kingdom of Evendarr, lead by Lady Katherine Galenson, sought the remnants of the Hadran Empire. The expedition travelled through the Kingdom of Niman and northward for several months until they met with the Barbarians of the Snake Nation. The expedition battled with those of the Snake Nation and won several decisive and crippling victories over the Barbarians.

In the Spring of 430, Lady Katherine established a stronghold named Fort Galen near Broken Lake Ford. From Fort Galen, the Evendarrians sought to colonize the area. In the years that followed, the people of the settlement fought with the clans of Orcs, Minotaurs, Giants, and Gnolls, as well as powerful undead. Through the portent of a dream, Lady Katherine's daughter was taken as newborn back to Evendarr and was fostered in safety there.

In a great mystery, sometime between 437 and 442, the populace of Fort Galen disappeared and its Earth Circle destroyed. The fate of Lady Katherine was unknown.

In February 597, Lady Niomi Avendale of Evendarr, descendant of Katherine Galenson, sought to learn the fate of her ancestor. Lady Niomi was given leave by her liege, Duchess Jane Monay, to lead an expedition that followed in the footsteps of Lady Katherine.

A month later, with the blessings of her liege, Niomi Avendale founded the town/outpost of Avendale and encouraged the freemen of Evendarr to settle and populate the re-founded colony. Several years later, Avendale became an independant Kingdom, and Regent Niomi Avendale became Queen Niomi Avendale.

In November 601, Niomi suffered her final death while in defense of her kingdom. She was survived by her husband, the Viscount Tavernier Septorian, who is currently Avendale's Regent, and their son Prince Stephanos Roberto Septorian.

The Kingdom of Avendale is still making expansions northward, and in June 602, the Regency moved to the frontier settlement of Greystone (formally called Grienkala).

In March 604 E.R., adventurers gathered from throughout Avalon destroyed Avendale's greatest enemy, the vampire Karvecki. Also that gathering, the Viscount-Regent Tavernier Septorian suffered his permanent death as he was murdered in a hostage situation involving visitors from the Kingdom of Evendarr.

In May 604 E.R., the Lady-Regent Ellimere Arundel appointed her cousin, Frederick Arundel as Duke to the Kingdom of Avendale. Avendale remains currently under the direction of His Grace Frederick Arundel.

More of Avendale's history can be read in the Library of Lady Elayne Josita Riveth-Ramirez and in Fudor's Guide to Avendale.
